HOW DO YOU KEEP A HORSE ON ITS FEED?

Sustaining a healthy appetite may be a key to maintaining the soundness of your competitive athletic horse. As your horse’s nutritional demands increase with training, is its feed intake keeping up? A recently published study conducted at Michigan State University found a dramatic 49% increase in feed intake among horses in athletic training by using Dynamic Trio 50/50.

“Horses in training have increased nutrient and metabolic requirements. Therefore, Dynamic Trio 50/50 supplementation may help the horse meet those needs through increased feed intake, and thereby increased nutrient retention.” Turner, K.K., B.D. Nielsen, C.I. O'Connor, and J.L. Burton. 2006. Bee pollen supplementation to horses in training seems to improve feed intake: a pilot study. J. Anim. Phys. Anim. Nutr. 90(9-10):414-420*

The study, just published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, analyzed two groups of horses. The two groups consisted of a control group fed a placebo and another group supplemented with Dynamic Trio 50/50. Both groups were trained using a standardized exercise regimen for 42 days. The study noted an average daily hay consumption of 6.3 Kg for the control group, while the group fed the bee pollen-based supplement, ate 9.4 Kg per day, representing a dramatic 49% increase in feed consumption. This increase in nutrient intake could have far-reaching implications for the health maintenance of competitive athletic horses in training. The study also noted significant increases in retention of certain nutrients, including nitrogen and phosphorus.
